Sermon Sequence

  1. 1
    Sermon 1 Micah 1:1-2:13

Judgment, Lament, and the Broken People

Micah begins by exposing sin, announcing judgment, and lamenting the collapse that follows covenant breach.

    Formation

To train God's people to see sin with covenant seriousness, reject false securities, mourn over rebellion, and respond with humble repentance before judgment hardens into devastation.

    Prayer for this passage

Holy God, Your word pierces through the comfort of our rebellion, and we tremble to know that You do not remain distant in Your temple but descend in terrible holiness to confront the covenant-breaking of Your own people. We confess that like Samaria and Jerusalem, we harbor sins we hope will go unnoticed, yet Your eyes see all and Your judgment is sure. Grant us hearts broken by our unfaithfulness rather than hardened by our excuses, that we might turn from our rebellion before Your holiness consumes us. We submit ourselves to Your sovereign word and trust that even in Your judgment, You remain faithful to Your covenant purpose.

  2. 2
    Sermon 2 Micah 3:1-5:15

Leadership Failure and the Hope of the Ruler from Bethlehem

Corrupt leadership gives way to the promise of a coming ruler who will shepherd His people in peace.

    Formation

To form God's people into a community that prizes justice, demands integrity from leaders, rejects mercenary religion, and submits to the Spirit-empowered truth of God rather than flattering spiritual performance.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord, open my eyes to see how easily those entrusted with justice—including myself in whatever sphere of influence I hold—can become predators who devour rather than protect, who hate good and love evil. Forgive me for the ways I have failed to stand for the vulnerable and have instead used my position for gain. Grant me the wisdom to fear Your silence more than any earthly consequence, and give me courage to cry out for justice on behalf of those being consumed, trusting that You hear the afflicted even when You turn away from the wicked.

  3. 3
    Sermon 3 Micah 6:1-7:20

    Covenant Lawsuit, Justice, and Mercy

The prophet calls the people to justice, mercy, and humble walking with God while hoping in His saving forgiveness.

    Formation

To call God's people away from religious externalism and into grateful, covenant-shaped obedience marked by justice, steadfast love, and humble walking with the Lord.

    Prayer for this passage

Father, You have called me to account not out of failure but out of faithful love, just as You summoned Israel from Egypt to the plains of Moab with signs and wonders I cannot deny. Forgive me for the ingratitude that questions Your redemptive work or turns away from the mercy You have lavished upon me. Let the weight of Your faithfulness break through my resistance, that I might respond not with excuses but with a grateful heart aligned to Your covenant purposes.
