Sermon Sequence

  1. 1
    Sermon 1 Matthew 1:1-4:25

    Advent, Fulfillment, and Preparation

The genealogy, birth, baptism, and temptation present Jesus as the promised Messiah entering the story of Israel.

    Prayer for this passage

Father, strengthen my faith in your long faithfulness. Teach me to receive Jesus as the promised Messiah, Son of David, and Son of Abraham. Help me rest in the grace that works through weakness and history to bring salvation in Christ. In Jesus' name.

  2. 2
    Sermon 2 Matthew 5:1-7:29

    Kingdom Charter

The Sermon on the Mount gives the ethic of the King and the life of the kingdom.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord Jesus, blessed King, make me poor in spirit, tender over sin, meek before you, and hungry for righteousness. Teach me mercy, purify my heart, make me a peacemaker, and strengthen me to endure opposition with joy because my reward is secure with you, in Jesus' name.

  3. 3
    Sermon 3 Matthew 8:1-10:42

    Authority, Mercy, and Mission

Miracles and the sending discourse show the King's authority and the shape of mission.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord Jesus, willing and compassionate King, I bring my uncleanness, shame, and need before you. Cleanse me by your mercy, restore me by your authority, and make my life a testimony to your saving grace, in Jesus' name.

  4. 4
    Sermon 4 Matthew 11:1-13:58

    Responses, Rest, and Parables

The book contrasts rejection and reception while Jesus teaches in parables.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord Jesus, authoritative Teacher and King, keep my ministry under your instruction. Let every act of mission flow from your word, point back to your person, and remain faithful to your kingdom proclamation, in Jesus’ name.

  5. 5
    Sermon 5 Matthew 14:1-20:34

    Confession and Cross-Shaped Discipleship

The transfiguration, Peter's confession, and repeated calls to take up the cross shape discipleship.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord Jesus, give me courage like John to bear faithful witness without compromise. Deliver me from Herod’s fear of people, love of image, rash speech, and shallow grief. Make me truthful, repentant, and faithful even when obedience is costly, in Jesus’ name.

  6. 6
    Sermon 6 Matthew 21:1-25:46

    Royal Entry, Judgment, and Watchfulness

The king enters Jerusalem, judges hypocrisy, and calls for watchful readiness.

    Prayer for this passage

Father, you have sent your King to Zion in humility, not as the ruler we would have invented, but as the Savior we desperately need. Teach us to cry Hosanna with hearts that truly trust the Son of David, and keep us from praising loudly while surrendering shallowly. Make us obedient like the disciples who acted on Jesus' word, and give us grace to receive the King who came gently to bear the cross and rise in authority.

  7. 7
    Sermon 7 Matthew 26:1-28:20

    Passion, Resurrection, and Commission

Jesus' suffering, victory, and sending climax the gospel.

    Prayer for this passage

Father, you have shown us that the cross was not an accident, but the appointed path of your Son. Teach us to behold Jesus as the Son of Man who knew the cost and still gave himself for sinners. Guard us from religious appearance without surrendered hearts, and lead us to trust your sovereign purpose even when human evil is real. Fix our hope on Christ our Passover and our crucified Redeemer.
