Sermon Sequence

  1. 1
    Sermon 1 Jeremiah 1:1-6:30

    Call, Commission, and Early Warning

Jeremiah's call and early sermons show that the prophet speaks by divine authority, not by personal ambition.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord God, make us tremble before Your word more than before people. Forgive our excuses, our fear, and our silence. Strengthen us to speak truth faithfully, to accept both the hard and hopeful parts of Your word, and to rest in Your presence through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  2. 2
    Sermon 2 Jeremiah 7:1-20:18

    Temple Sermon, Resistance, and Lament

The temple sermon, sign acts, and Jeremiah's tears expose covenant failure and the cost of faithful proclamation.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord, forgive us for trusting in the symbols of faith—our buildings, our rituals, our religious heritage—while neglecting the covenant obedience you require of us. You call us to amend our ways and our deeds, to act justly toward the vulnerable, to abandon the idols that divide our hearts, and to dwell in your presence through genuine devotion alone. Strip from us this false confidence that outward religion can shield us from the consequences of inward rebellion. We surrender our self-deception and commit ourselves to the hard work of faithfulness—seeking justice, pursuing righteousness, and worshiping you exclusively—trusting that you alone are our true refuge.

  3. 3
    Sermon 3 Jeremiah 21:1-29:32

    Kings, False Prophets, and Exile

Judgment on kings and false hope clarifies that covenant security cannot be manufactured by denial or propaganda.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord, forgive me for the times I have called out to You in crisis while clutching my sins, seeking Your rescue without the repentance that alone can turn Your hand toward me. I confess that I cannot bargain with You through half-hearted prayer, nor can I expect You to shield me from the consequences of persistent rebellion against Your covenant. Rather than plead for deliverance I do not deserve, I surrender my will entirely to Yours, trusting that Your opposition to my sin is the truest expression of Your love, and committing myself to genuine repentance so that my cry for help becomes the cry of one who has truly turned.

  4. 4
    Sermon 4 Jeremiah 30:1-33:26

The Book of Consolation and the New Covenant

Promise, restoration, and the new covenant reveal God's mercy beyond exile and human collapse.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord, thank You that You have written down Your promises of restoration so that in our darkest hours, when judgment seems final, we can read of a day when You will turn our captivity and bring us home. Give us faith to believe that Your word, inscribed and preserved, is as certain as the day it will be fulfilled. We surrender our doubt to the testimony of what You have written, trusting that the same God who commanded Jeremiah to record these words will accomplish every promise He has made.

  5. 5
    Sermon 5 Jeremiah 34:1-45:5

The Fall of Judah and Its Aftermath

The collapse of Judah and the aftermath of judgment show the cost of covenant breach and the persistence of God's word.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord, I confess that I, like Zedekiah, often rebel against your covenant and ignore your clear warnings spoken through your Word. Yet even as you declare the certainty of consequences for disobedience, you speak to me personally and mercifully, never leaving me without a word from your mouth. Help me to hear your voice in Scripture not as a distant threat but as the intimate address of a God who knows my name and my future. I surrender my stubborn resistance to your will and commit to obey your covenant, trusting that even in judgment, your mercy measures out my days.

  6. 6
    Sermon 6 Jeremiah 46:1-52:34

Oracles Against the Nations and Historical Closure

The nations are judged, Babylon falls, and Jeremiah closes with a witness that God's word outlasts empires.

    Prayer for this passage

Lord, you have shown me that the mightiest armies and the proudest nations cannot stand against your sovereign judgment, and that human strength and confidence in weapons are worthless when your day of vengeance arrives. Forgive me for the times I trust in the visible power of this world rather than in your invisible rule over all things. Teach me to see beyond the banners and shields of earthly power to recognize your hand governing the rise and fall of nations according to your purposes. I surrender my anxieties about the strength of earthly powers to you, and I commit myself to trust in your sovereignty alone, knowing that you are the God before whom all kingdoms must bow.
