Biography

Meremoth was a priest who returned from the Babylonian exile. He was among those who received the silver, gold, and vessels brought back to Jerusalem by Ezra (Ezr.8.33). During the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem under Nehemiah, Meremoth, the son of Uriah, repaired two sections of the wall (Neh.3.4,21). He is also listed among the priests who sealed the covenant with Nehemiah to follow the Law of God (Neh.10.5). In the lists of priests and Levites who returned with Zerubbabel, Meremoth is mentioned as the head of a priestly family (Neh.12.3,15).
