Izhar יִצְחַר
Son of Asher listed in the genealogy in Chronicles
Biography
Izhar is included in the genealogy of the tribe of Asher recorded in 1Ch.4.7. He is listed as one of the sons of Asher, making him a grandson of the patriarch Israel (or 'Jacob'). No other details are provided about his life or family. This is the only time Izhar is mentioned in the Bible. The genealogies in Chronicles aimed to document the lineage of the tribes of Israel following the Babylonian exile. By recording the descendants of each tribe, the returning exiles could establish their ancestral heritage and tribal associations.
