Hemdan is mentioned in the genealogies of Esau, the son of Isaac and brother of Israel (or 'Jacob'), in Genesis and 1 Chronicles. He was a descendant of Seir the Horite, the original inhabitants of the land of Seir (Edom) before Esau's descendants settled there (Gen.36.26; 1Ch.1.41).
