Sermon Sequence
- 1Sermon 1 Jude 1:1-4
Opening Greeting and the Call to Contend
Jude opens by urging believers to contend for the faith because of infiltrating ungodliness.
Prayer for this passage
Father, grant me eyes to recognize when grace is twisted into permission for sin, and give me courage to contend for the apostolic faith that has been delivered to us once for all. Strengthen me against the subtle infiltration of those who deny the lordship of Jesus and pervert your mercy into moral license. I surrender my desire for comfort and acceptance to your call for faithful vigilance, trusting that you have equipped the church to guard the faith you have entrusted to us.
- 2Sermon 2 Jude 1:5-16
Warning Examples and the Nature of False Teachers
Biblical warnings, vivid imagery, and prophetic judgment expose the danger of apostasy and pride.
Prayer for this passage
Lord, your judgment against those who abandoned faith and rejected your authority in ages past stands as a sobering reminder that no privilege or past deliverance exempts us from accountability when we turn from you. Grant me a heart that trembles at the warning of your consistent justice while clinging to your mercy, that I might guard my faith jealously and submit willingly to your authority rather than follow the path of rebellion. I surrender my life to your lordship, choosing obedience over the empty autonomy that brought destruction to those before me, trusting that this allegiance alone shields me from your righteous judgment.
- 3Sermon 3 Jude 1:17-23
Mercy, Perseverance, and Rescue
The church is called to remember apostolic teaching, build itself up, and show mercy to the doubting.
Prayer for this passage
Father, grant me wisdom to remember the apostolic warnings I have received and to stand firm in the truth delivered once for all, so that I am not swept away by those who mock and divide through their worldly desires. Open my eyes to discern the spiritual poverty of those who cause divisions, recognizing that they lack your Spirit and cannot lead me astray from the foundation you have established. I surrender my desire for false unity or easy compromise, and I commit myself to endure by remaining rooted in apostolic teaching and the presence of your indwelling Spirit.
- 4Sermon 4 Jude 1:24-25
The Great Doxology
Jude ends by praising God who is able to keep His people from stumbling and present them blameless.
Prayer for this passage
Lord, I stand amazed that You are able to keep me from stumbling and to present me blameless before Your glorious presence—not through my own strength, but through Your preserving grace. When doubt creeps in about my security or my worthiness, remind me that my confidence rests not in my performance but in Your power to guard what You have called Your own. I surrender my anxious heart to You, the only God, our Savior through Jesus Christ, and I trust that what You have begun in me, You will complete until that day when I stand before Your glory, made spotless by Your transforming hand.
