Sermon Sequence
- 1Sermon 1 Colossians 1:1-14
Thanksgiving, Prayer, and Gospel Fruit
Paul begins with gratitude and intercession as the church is strengthened in knowledge, fruit, and endurance.
Prayer for this passage
Father, I thank you that my identity is not defined by my circumstances or achievements, but by your calling and my union with Christ Jesus. Grant me the grace to receive the apostolic teaching you have given your church, recognizing it as your own direction for my faithful growth toward maturity. Because I belong to you and live in Christ, I surrender my resistance to your word and commit myself to walk in the peace that flows from your fatherly care and Christ's redemptive work.
- 2Sermon 2 Colossians 1:15-23
The Supremacy of Christ and Cosmic Reconciliation
Christ is preeminent over creation and redemption, reconciling all things through the blood of His cross.
Prayer for this passage
Lord, as I contemplate that Jesus is the image of Your invisible nature and that all things were created through Him and for Him, I am struck by how far my daily concerns drift from honoring His supremacy. Forgive me for the countless moments I act as though my circumstances, my struggles, or my plans hold more weight than His eternal authority and reconciling power. Grant me grace to live in the reality that He holds all things together, especially the fractured places in my own heart that His cross alone can make whole. I surrender my resistance to His lordship and commit to recognizing His preeminence in every corner of my life today.
- 3Sermon 3 Colossians 1:24-2:5
Ministry, Suffering, and Maturity in Christ
Paul's suffering service aims at mature believers who are knit together in love and established in Christ.
Prayer for this passage
Father, I marvel that You have made known the mystery of Christ in me, the hope of glory, and I ask that You would deepen my roots in this union with Him until I stand mature and complete in His fullness. Give me the courage to embrace whatever labors and sufferings come in proclaiming Christ fully to those around me, knowing that my stewardship is a divine appointment meant to present others mature in Him. Transform my weariness into worship and my struggles into service, for I surrender myself to the work You have given me, trusting that it advances Your eternal purpose of bringing all believers to maturity in Christ.
- 4Sermon 4 Colossians 2:6-23
Fullness in Christ and the Challenge of False Teaching
The church is warned against empty philosophy and called to live from Christ's fullness alone.
Prayer for this passage
Father, I confess how easily I seek to supplement what You have already completed in Christ, pursuing hollow philosophies and human traditions as if His fullness were somehow insufficient for my spiritual life. Forgive me for forgetting that in Him I have been forgiven of all my debts, the record of my sins erased by His cross, and that every hostile power has been disarmed and triumphed over through His resurrection. I surrender my tendency toward spiritual supplements and recommit myself to walk in Christ alone, trusting that His incarnate presence and finished work contain everything I need for wholeness and victory.
- 5Sermon 5 Colossians 3:1-4:1
New Life, Household Order, and Hidden Glory
The risen life of the church reshapes identity, speech, relationships, and household order.
Prayer for this passage
Father, You have raised us with Christ and seated us in the heavenly places with Him, yet our minds so often chase after the things of this earth; awaken our hearts to seek the things above where Christ sits at Your right hand, and grant us the grace to set our affections on these eternal realities rather than the temporary treasures of this world. Our true life is hidden in Christ, kept safe in You, and we surrender our wandering thoughts and desires to this resurrecting truth, trusting that as we orient our minds toward heaven, we will be transformed by the reality of who we already are in Him.
- 6Sermon 6 Colossians 4:2-18
Prayer, Witness, and Mission
The closing instructions call the church to watchful prayer, wise witness, and coordinated mission.
Prayer for this passage
Father, awaken us from spiritual slumber to devote ourselves to prayer with vigilant hearts and thankful minds, knowing that persistent intercession opens doors for the gospel we long to proclaim. Give us wisdom and grace to speak of Christ with clarity and seasoning, that our words to those outside the faith might draw them toward your truth rather than repel them. We surrender our tendency toward careless witness and defensive speech, trusting instead in your Spirit to guide both our prayers and our conversations as instruments of your kingdom's advance.
