10:5 His ways are prosperous at all times. He is arrogant, and Your laws are far from His sight. As for all His adversaries, He sneers at them.
10:6 He says in His heart, “I shall not be shaken. For generations I shall have no trouble.”
10:7 His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression. Under His tongue is mischief and iniquity.
10:8 He lies in wait near the villages. From ambushes, He murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set against the helpless.
10:9 He lurks in secret as a lion in His ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless when He draws Him in His net.
10:10 The helpless are crushed. They collapse. They fall under His strength.
10:11 He says in His heart, “God has forgotten. He hides His face. He will never see it.”

Psalm 10 argues that the apparent hiddenness of God and prosperity of the wicked must be brought into prayer, not allowed to become unbelief. The wicked operate by pride, greed, violent speech, predatory schemes, and practical atheism, assuming that God will not see or call them to account. The psalmist counters this lie by praying for the Lord to arise, confessing that God does see trouble and grief, and declaring that the Lord is King forever. Therefore, the afflicted may trust that God hears their desire, strengthens their hearts, defends the fatherless and oppressed, and will end the terror caused by mortal humanity.

The rulers of this world crouched in secret to destroy Jesus, the truly Innocent One, believing that God had 'forgotten' Him on the cross; however, the 'high' judgments of God were brought low to vindicate the Son and break the power of every predatory lion.
